5 Minutes of Chaos is a story about the true value and impact of adventure–it’s far bigger than climbing and diabetes. It’s about the opportunity to face bigger challenges than we thought possible and apply that mindset to every avenue of our life. This story follows two climbers with type 1 diabetes up a big climb that pushes them to limits which they thought were beyond their abilities. From this experience they find a new ability to change the possibilities of life with a chronic illness by choosing a new and more powerful narrative to live by.
“Concerns mounted and I got desperate. I clawed. I thrashed. I bled a little bit too. When I finally arrived at the top of the pitch and set up the belay, it occurred to me that in other circumstances I would have hung on the rope. I would have sent up the white flag and let fear win.
This time it was different. The complete lack of empathy that the mountains exhibited towards our plight pushed me to dig deeper than ever before. It felt good, surprisingly, as if I had opened a closet door in my house and found an entire mansion contained within. I didn’t know I had it in me.”
