With nothing to do but wait to leave, it’s hard not to worry about…basically everything. It feels like we should be doing more to prepare but there really isn’t much beyond the day to day left (other than actually loading up the car). In episode 40 the topic of fear came up and in these in-between moments getting ready I’ve been thinking a lot about fear. Not big, scary, serious fear–but little, insidious, worries that cast huge shadows in our lives and stop us from taking the steps to do the things that could change everything for us.

I have been feeling of late that the upcoming adventure is not “climbing for a cause” as much as it is climbing just because. The funny thing is that I’ve been kind of afraid to admit that to myself, let alone publicly. The desire to be understood and appreciated can be really dangerous. But I think there is a lot of value in speaking to the normalcy that we can create out of the extraordinary and so I’m going to keep shouting into the wind. Let’s cure fear. That’s the closest cause to me. There are enough things in our life that we have no control over–challenges that we can’t mitigate–but if we fail to take advantage of the choices that we do have because of fear then we are carrying burdens by choice. I know this is something I have been doing a lot and I just don’t want to do that any more.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. Doing things that scare me because that’s the best prescription to treat fear. Face it, feel it and figure it out. Hmm…perhaps I should have titled this episode “F- Fear”? I’d love to hear your take on this–sound off in the comments below!
