I wrote a blog about a week ago about the meaning of compliance–and while lots of people have feelings about the clinical meaning and use of that label for people with diabetes, I have been thinking more about what it means for LivingVertical. This episode explores the next project that I will be doing–and how it’s not like other projects because it’s a little more focused on what inspires me rather than what might fit into a potential sponsors marketing plan or what will be the next ice bucket challenge.
My criteria is that it has to be authentic and it has to be worthwhile–even if I fail completely. Fun would be great too! This is a short episode and I hope that I will get to write and record more over the coming months as my training progresses and the various components of this new project that has no name as of yet–come together. In this episode I lay out the climbing objectives (look for a blog about this soon too!) and I am not going to rush the message of this effort–because I think that trying to boil something as sizable as this project will be–down into one tweet or a couple of hashtags would really be missing the point of the process.
At this point in the process the message that feels appropriate is that compliance isn’t just a medical label. It’s part and parcel of how we view ourselves and how we feel obligated to fit into the broken down system we are dealing with. That’s something that I’ve tried to do with LivingVertical in the past and I don’t think that’s going to be a big part of this next project. If it’s not a little bit rowdy then it’s probably off message.
